84 countries, and whether the door is open to a British passport
I email a few times a week. Unsubscribe whenever you like, no hard feelings.
I went through 84 countries on each government's own pages and gave every one two answers. Is there a way in for somebody living on a pension or savings? And is there one for somebody who still earns?
The 84 are not my pick. They are every country with enough British people living there that our own government publishes a guide to living in it, plus Panama, Ecuador and Uruguay. If British people actually move somewhere, it is in here.
Twenty three have no ordinary door. Two have no door at all. And the easiest country in the world for a British person to move to asks nothing of you whatsoever.
This guide is free.
Inside it
All 84 countries, with the figure and the conditions for each. Where a government publishes no figure, it says so.
The twenty three with no ordinary door, and the nine of them that are in Europe.
Why the cheap famous visas into Spain, Italy and France bar you from working, including for your own British employer on your own laptop.
The European countries with nothing for a pensioner that open the moment you work for yourself.
The one country that asks nothing of you at all. It is an hour from Manchester.
Is your country in it?
All 84, by region.
Europe (36)
Asia and the Middle East (23)
The Americas (16)
Africa and Oceania (9)
Every one of them gets two answers: can you get in living on what you have, and can you get in if you still earn.
Who I am. James Hopkins. Eleven years out of Britain, four moves, two children born overseas, and two rental properties in York I have run from abroad the whole time I have owned them.
Nobody pays me to tell you where to go. I take no money from anyone who gains when you choose a particular country: no agent, no developer, no relocation firm. Every one of them has a reason to tell you it will be fine. I have no reason to tell you anything except what I found.
